NASHUA — Ra’quan Groves and Sydney Perry of the Rivier men’s and women’s basketball teams were named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Sportsmanship teams, as selected by the league’s head coaches.

Groves, a graduate student and team captain, appeared in all 26 games for the men’s team, starting in 10. He played a key role in leading Rivier to a 14-12 record, securing the program’s first back-to-back winning seasons since 2013-14. Additionally, the team reached the GNAC quarterfinals in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2012-13 and 2013-14.

“Quan led by example all year,” said head coach Tom Glynn. “He is the definition of a great teammate and did whatever we asked of him. He put his teammates before himself countless times. Quan is the heart and soul of Rivier men’s basketball.”

In her first collegiate season, Perry quickly became a vital piece of the team’s success. The Windsor, Vt., native appeared in all 26 games, earning 20 starts. Her leadership, both on and off the court, helped propel the women’s basketball team to a 15-10 record, which marked the best season since the 2013-14 campaign.

“Sydney is the example of what it means to compete at the highest level while respecting your opponent and yourself, both on and off the court,” said head coach Deanna Purcell, a 2015 Riv grad. “She works hard, plays the game the right way, and shows what being a Rivier women’s basketball player is all about.”
