UNH Roundup: Men’s hoop, women’s hockey post wins

DURHAM – The University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team defeated NJIT, 80-69 Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium.

Junior guard Sami Pissis (Paris, France) recorded 18 points, freshman guard Khalil Badru (New Britain, Conn.) recorded 15 points, and sophomore forward Davide Poser (Veneto, Italy) and graduate student forward/center Emmanuel Okpomo (Delta State, Nigeria) tallied 10 points to round out the win for the ‘Cats.

The Wildcats improve to 6-19 (4-6 AE).The Wildcats return to action on Thursday, Feb. 13, at Vermont (7 p.m., ESPN+).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

NJIT 71, UNH 63

Sophomore guard Eva DeChent led the way for UNH in Newark, N.J. with 26 points, marking her sixth game of the season 25 or more.

Sophomore guard Maggie Cavanaugh added 16 points, while senior forward Belen Morales Lopez recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

The Wildcats drop to 8-16 on the season (2-9 America East), while the Highlanders improve to 9-15 (6-5).

UNH will be back at home to host Vermont on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

UNH 3, MERRIMACK 2

Grad student Sara Boucher scored two goals to lift the Wildcats at Lawler Rink in North Andover, Mass.

Sophomore goaltender Sedona Blair made 32 saves with 15 saves in both the first and third periods. Senior defender Marina Alvarez scored the game-winning goal with a power-play tally 25 seconds into the third period that gave UNH a 3-1 lead.

Merrimack goalie Margaux Favre made 17 saves. Sage Babey and Solveig Gisler scored the Warriors’ goals.
