UNH’s Conmy, LeClerc semifinalists for Walter Brown Award

BOSTON – For the second straight season, University of New Hampshire sophomore forward Ryan Conmy and junior forward Cy LeClerc of Brentwood have been named semifinalists for the 73rd annual Walter Brown Award. This honor is awarded annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England. This is the nation’s oldest college hockey honor which is nationally recognized.

Conmy leads the team with 12 goals and 23 points, while his 11 assists are tied for third. Earlier this season he posted an 11-game point streak and has at least one point in 18 of the 23 games he has played in. For his career, Conmy has 26 goals and 28 assists for 54 points.

LeClerc has six goals and 13 assists for 19 points this season. He is tied for first on the team in assists. He recorded a career-high four points with one goal and three assists at RPI in the 7-4 win on Dec. 28. For his career, LeClerc has 26 goals and 37 assists for 63 points.

The field of 26 semifinalists are filled out by 19 forwards, three defensemen and four goaltenders from 16 teams. The finalists and winner of the award will be announced in March before the start of the NCAA Tournament.

Seven Wildcats have won the Walter Brown Award (Bobby Miller-1977, Ralph Cox-1979, Ty Conklin-2001, Mike Ayers-2003, Steve Saviano-2004, Kevin Regan-2008 and Bobby Butler-2010).

Next up for the No. 19 nationally-ranked ‘Cats are home games versus No. 1 Boston College on Friday, Feb. 7, presented by Army ROTC on NESN and ESPN+ at 7 p.m. and Merrimack on Saturday presented by Eastern Propane on ESPN+ at 7 p.m. After the game on Saturday will be Skate with the ‘Cats as fans can skate with the UNH men’s hockey team. Fans are encouraged to bring their own skates.
