UNH men’s soccer settles for opening 0-0 tie with B.U.

BOSTON – The No. 9 University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team tied Boston University, 0-0, on Thursday afternoon at Nickerson Field in the season opener.
Both teams start the season 0-0-1.
The first half went scoreless as the Wildcats outshot the Terriers, 4-0.
The Wildcats took the first shot on goal in the 54th minute of the game when graduate student Jiwoo Lee (Seoul, Korea) sent a header to the net from 15 yards out, but Andrew Wike made the save.
In the 68th minute, senior Erik Lauta (Aptos, Calif.) saved a shot by Diego Rived from 25 yards out.
Junior Michael Tsicoulias (Newton, Mass.) blasted a free kick from 20 yards out in the 86th minute, but Wike made a diving save to keep the game scoreless for the 0-0 tie.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
UNH outshot BU, 10-1, while the Wildcats had five shots on goal and the Terriers posted one.
The Wildcats attempted all nine corner kicks of the game.
Lauta made one save for UNH, while Wike posted five saves for the Terriers.
UNH returns to action for the home opener in Durham versus No. 12 Western Michigan on Sunday at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
