James Pleat struggled a bit on Day 2 of the New Hampshire State Amateur Golf championship at Concord Country Club, but he was still good enough to finish the two-day stroke play qualifying tied for third at two-under on Tuesday.
The round wasn’t completely finished thanks to weather/darkness.
Pleat shot a three-over 73 a day after he fired a five-under 65. He was tied with CCC member Will McLaughlin.
Hunter Duncan, a CCC member, was the State Am medalist before things head to match play beginning today for the remainder of the tournament. He shot an even par 70 to finish at minus-6.
Mark Stevens finished one shot back at minus-5.
Locally, Ryan Brown of Passaconaway was next after Pleat as he did finish, tied for 10th at plus-2. The 2022 champion, Nashua’s Brandon Gillis out of Sky Meadow, also beat the weather and was tied for 15th at plus-3. Kevin Gaynor of Souhegan Woods is also at plus-3 but has a hole to go.
Passaconaway’s Jack Kelley finished at plus-4, all alone in 19th.
The projected cut is at 12 over to get to 60 total golfers, and that may once the round is finished this morning leave out Nashua’s Phil Pleat, who is at plus-13.
The second round, including the March, will finish this morning and then match play will begin, just one round. The rounds of 32 and 16 will be on Thursday, with the quarters and semis on Friday and the finals on Saturday, all with weather permitting.
