Rivier Roundup: Softball splits, baseball bows to St. Joe’s

It was a busy weekend for the Rivier University women’s softball team, as they split their second doubleheader in two days on Sunday.

The Raiders fell to St. Joseph’s (Conn.) 5-3 in the first game in West Hartford, but won the nightcap 8-3 to even their GNAC mark at 3-3, 10-12 overall.

In the win, Christina Panagiotopoulos went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, two of them coming on a double in the Raiders’ four-run sixth. Sophia Quinlan and Hayley Rapaglia, who also went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, had run-scoring hits in the frame.

Sydney Greeno got the win with one inning of one-hit, one-run reliefj.

The Raiders lost a heartbreaker in the opener, giving up three runs in the sixth on back-to-back doubles. Kayle Miles led the offense, going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Hailey Berube took the loss in the circle, giving up four runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings.

Rivier hosts Lesley on Thursday.

BASEBALL

St. JOSEPH’S (CONN.) 13, RIVIER 3

The Raiders fell behind 4-0 by the third inning and never recovered, falling to 7-16 overall, 3-4 in the GNAC. Luis Colin went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and J.D. Normand (double) and Dylan Aliberti each had a hit and an RBI for the Raiders.

Nate Bonacorsi took the loss for Riv, giving up four runs on five hits over three innings. Ryan Quinn went 3 for 5 with five RBIs for the Jays.

Rivier hosts Anna Maria on Tuesday.
