The New England Patriots made a deal with an offensive lineman on Thursday, but it wasn’t the one most are hoping for.

The team’s new regime still obviously feels depth is important for their offensive line, and Thursday they took steps toward adding some by reportedly agreeing to terms with former Steelers guard Chukwuma Okorafor.

Okorafor played in 77 games with Pittsburgh, starting 59, but was waived last month, so the Patriots were able to agree to terms with him prior to the start of free agency, multiple reports said. Meanwhile New England’s Michael Onwenu is still set to be a free agent when the new league year begins next week.

Okorafor played in 14 games and started seven of them this past season. Okorafor was drafted in the third round in 2018. He was much more productive in 2022 when he played in 100 percent of the snaps for the Steelers.
