So how was your weekend? It probably wasn’t as good as Jack Januario’s.

The best weekend for any local athlete may have belonged to the former Bishop Guertin High School swimming standout for certain.

The 2021 Telegraph Boys Swimmer of the Year from Amherst, now a junior at Georgetown University, led the Hoyas to the Big East championship in Indianapolis this past weekend, the final day of the-four-day event being Saturday.

The Hoyas totaled 859.5 points, ahead of Xavier’s 764.

Januario was the Big East’s Co-Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Year, sharing the honor with Providence College’s Will Layden.

But it was clear, no Januario, no Hoya title. He began by being on the Hoyas 800 meter free relay, that finished with a second place time of 6:36.76.

He then broke a program record on the second day with a first place finish in the 500 free in 4:22.63. The Hoyas men’s and women’s swim teams on that day earned 10 medals and set five school records.

Then, on Day 3 on last Friday,Januario took first in the 400 IM with a time of 3:48.48.

On the final day, Januario had a third place finish in the 1650 free with a time of 15:25.90.

It’s Georgetown’s third straight title. “They’ve really started to build something special here and we’re looking forward to seeing where we can take it,” Hoyas coach Jack Leavitt said.

And Januario has been a big part of that, and would no doubt want to take it to a fourth title.
