Rivier Alaskan tandem Paxon, Symmes win ECHA honors
NASHUA – Following last week’s 3-0 shutout of JWU-Providence, classmates and fellow Alaskans Briana Paxson and Rachel Symmes each picked up Eastern Collegiate Hockey Alliance (ECHA) weekly awards.
Paxson was tabbed the Alliances’ Player of the Week after scoring two of the Raiders’ three goals while Symmes was named the Goaltender of the Week for her 43-save performance.
With five goals and one helper thus far, Paxson is tied with Rebecca McKelvey atop the team leaderboard in points with six. The Eagle River, Alaska product scored the final two goals in the victory to finish with a +3 plus/minus rating. This was her second career ECHA Player of the Week honors.
This marks Symmes’ second ECHA honor of the campaign as well as her second career shutout. Through seven starts, the Chugiak, Alaska native boasts a goals-against average of 1.93 and a .955 save percentage.
The Raiders, who now sit at 4-2-2 (0-1-2 ECHA), return to the ice on Friday with an 8 p.m. home game against Albertus Magnus at Conway Arena.
