Norwich will be site of 2024 Futures League All-Star Game

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Nov 29, 2023

The Futures League/Nashua Silver Knights schedule likely won’t be released until sometime next month, but we already know when and where the 2024 Futures Collegiate League All-Star Game will be.

To the victor go the spoils. The 2023 FCBL champions, the Norwich Sea Unicorns, will host what will now be the league’s two-day All-Star event on Monday and Tuesday, July 23-24, 2024, the league announced on Tuesday.

The game will be Tuesday night at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium, while on Monday it’s expected that there will be a Home Run Derby at the venue. The two day event is now labeled The “2024 Futures League All-Star Experience”.

Norwich, along with Vermont, was added to the FCBL in 2021 as the league swooped in to grab hold of two franchises that were in affiliated baseball until an MLB-ordered contraction. Dodd Stadium has had a baseball team there for 29 straight seasons.

“Dodd Stadium is the perfect fit for our 2024 Futures League festivities,” said Futures League Commissioner Joe Paolucci in a release. “The fans of Norwich will have an opportunity to see the best of the best that our league has to offer and we are all excited to see what the 2023 Organization of the Year has in store for us. It is going to be a great event that will help to continue to grow our league.”

Sea Unicorns General Manager Lee Walter, Jr., said “Full plans for the two-day event will be announced in the coming months, but we hope the fans of the Futures League, and more specifically, the great people of Southeastern Connecticut, are as excited for this as we are.”

Nashua has hosted the game twice. Holman was the site of the first-ever FCBL All-Star game in 2012, and then returned in 2018 as part of the 80th birthday celebration of Holman Stadium.
