Groman’s double-double gives UNH women 59-51 win

DURHAM - Senior guard Adara Groman led the ‘Cats with 20 points as the University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team defeated Howard University, 59-51 on Sunday night at Lundholm Gymnasium.

The Wildcats’ record improves to 2-1 (0-0-AE) and Howard falls to 1-2 (0-0-MEAC).

UNH led 24-22 at the half but trailed 39-36 entering the fourth quarter.

With seven minutes on the clock, Groman scored the first point of the quarter for UNH and started the run with a layup.

Bella Stuart scored shortly after and continued the ‘Cats run with a jumper, bringing the ‘Cats to lead 40-39. Senior center Paige Cote continued the run with a layup, scoring two points and extending the UNH lead 42-39.

Sophomore guard Avery O’Connor scored a three-pointer, keeping the ‘Cats lead 45-39, with 5 minutes left on the clock.

O’Connor scored another three-point shot with 2:34 left; ‘Cats still in the lead 50-44.

The Wildcats return to action Wednesday for an 8:30 p.m. ET game against the Colorado State Rams at the Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colorado.
