For Belichick, it’s all about Commanders, in more ways than one
It’s all about vision.
When New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick looks across the field at the Washington Commanders today, what do you think he’ll be seeing? His future team via trade? Or simply this week’s opponent.
We go with the latter. Belichick is all about trying to win, but it’s the fact he has a roster that is too limited offensively is killing him, and after every loss there’s a new rumor.
Perhaps youth will be served today. Veterans Kendrick Bourne (done for season) and DeVante Parker. That means that perhaps Kayshon Boutte and Tyquan Thornton can take advantage. We know Demario Douglas will.
“Yeah, I think all the receivers, they recognize the situation,” Belichick said. “It’s an opportunity for the guys that are out there and they’re trying to make the most of it.”
Belichick certainly recognizes the situation. He has to win. And now. A loss to the Commanders today at home and that might just seal the deal.
We don’t think that will happen:
PATRIOTS 24, COMMANDERS 21
Without their two best defensive linemen, the Commanders will be weak up front defensively and Belichick’s future team likely comes up short. That win may make the Patriots his future team again until the next loss.
KANSAS CITY 27, MIAMI 21
Name a good team the Dolphins have beaten? The Chiefs obviously need a boost on offense, as Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift can’t do it all by themselves, right? A healthy Mahomes should make the difference here in Germany.
BENGALS 26, BILLS 23
Again, have the Bills beaten anybody of real substance? Only Miami, which we’ve said can’t beat anybody good. The Bengals have – the 49ers last week. We rest our case on the arm of Joe Burrow and interceptions thrown by Josh Allen.
EAGLES 17, COWBOYS 14
Another good one, albeit a 4:25 game today rather than the Sunday or Monday Night game. Good job by FOX to protect it. Now, who wins? Well the Eagles defense, that’s who. Count on Dak Prescott to turn the ball over.
RAMS 23, PACKERS 17
Remember when this used to be a game between two Super Bowl contenders? That’s what happens when you spend and don’t draft, or when you don’t draft well and don’t spend. Jordan Love isn’t it for the Packers, and Matt Stafford has been injury riddled for the Rams but is expected to play, so L.A.it is.
RAVENS 17, SEAHAWKS 16
Missed extra point wins it. Two defensive juggernauts – remember the Seahawks just added Leonard Williams from the Giants – but Lamar Jackson under pressure this season has a 107.5 passer rating according to Pro Football Focus. Ravenous.
VEGAS 10, GIANTS 9
Ugh. But here’s the thing: Beware of a team that has hired an interim coach, especially in their first week. Remember, Jeff Saturday won his first game last year with Indianapolis – against the Raiders of all things – but that was it. The G-Men stink. Period. End of story.
LAST WEEK: 5-2
SEASON RECORD: 35-21
