Laube, Merrimack’s Eichman lead UNH past Dartmouth

DURHAM – Senior captain Dylan Laube rushed for 180 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the 11th-ranked University of New Hampshire football team to Saturday night’s 24-7 victory against Dartmouth College at Wildcat Stadium.

UNH retains the Granite Bowl with the win and now has a 21-19-2 edge in the all-time series.

Laube also had six catches for 31 yards and three punt returns for 12 yards for a total of 223 all-purpose yards. In strong winds, junior captain Max Brosmer (Roswell, Ga.) was limited to 11-for-23 passing for 67 yards and a TD.

Randall Harris (Walled Lake, Mich.) blocked a 44-yard field goal attempt in the first quarter and also had an interception. Max Oxendine (Chester, Va) had seven tackles and an INT. Merrimack’s Joe Eichman finished with a team-high eight tackles. Isaac Seide (Everett, Mass.) had UNH’s other takeaway when he recovered a muffed kickoff at the start of the third quarter.

Dartmouth quarterback Nick Howard was the Big Green’s top ground gainer with 10 rushes for 62 yards. Q Jones had 14 carries for 55 yards and scored DC’s lone touchdown. Dylan Cadwallader completed 16 of 30 passes for 195 yards. Both Howard and Cadwallader threw an INT. Paxton Scott was the top target with 10 catches for 153 yards. Braden Mullen led all players with 10 tackles, including two tackles for loss.

Brosmer connected with Laube on a 4-yard pass play to cap a 9-play, 44-yard drive that consumed 5:28 off the clock. Nick Mazzie (Boxford, Mass.) kicked the PAT to give the ‘Cats a 7-0 lead at 12:36.

Harris’ interception and 34-yard return gave UNH possession on the DC 33. Six plays later, Mazzie’s 33 yards extended the Wildcats’ lead to 10-0 with 52 seconds on the clock.

Dartmouth scored on the opening play of the fourth quarter on Jones’ 4-yard run up the middle to close within 10-7.

UNH responded with a 5-play, 52-yard drive capped by Brosmer’s 31-yard TD run down the left sideline to reestablish a 10-point lead, 17-7, at 12:16.

Oxendine’s interception and 43-yard return gave UNH possession at the DC 27.

Five plays later, Laube scored on a two-yard fourth-down run to extend the led to 24-7 at 7:47.

Dartmouth’s last two drives stalled at the UNH 37.

New Hampshire is back on the road next Saturday (6 p.m.) to battle the University of Delaware.

UNH’s next home game is Sept. 30 (3 p.m.) against Towson University.
