The phrase was uttered by the public address announcer at Harry Della Russo Stadium in Revere, Mass. over and over Sunday evening.

“Save by Jake!” he kept saying, far too often for the local UPSL entry.

That would be Boston Street FC goalie Jake Heihsel, who had eight saves, none of them routine, in ending the Eagles of the International Soccer Club of Nashua’s season with a 2-0 shutout in the United Premiere Soccer League’s New England Division semifinals.

“He’s been great for them all season,” said Nashua general manager Jeremy Zelanes, who coached the team along with assistant Diego Cardoso while head man Eusebio Marote was out of the country on his honeymoon. “Kudos to them, they’re a very good team and they’ll be successful in the next round.”

Besides Heihsel, the winners got two goals from Pedro Dasilva. Dasilva headed in a corner kick during a Boston Street flurry just 12:55 into the contest for a 1-0 lead, just what Zelanes said the team had to avoid if they wanted to advance to the Finals.

“They scored early, and that really cost us,” Zelanes said. “After they scored, it seemed the energy level went down a little bit.”

Still, Boston Street (9-2-1) was hanging on to its slim lead until about 20 minutes into the second half when Dasilva converted a boot into the box by teammate Gabriel Almeida that Nashua keeper Lucas O’Grady (six saves) had no chance on. Down 2-0, Nashua was in trouble.

“O’Grady was super for us all year,” Zelanes said. “It was just unfortunate tonight for him.”

It was unfortunate, period, for the Eagles, but the feeling is that their future is bright.

“We missed the playoffs by one game last year, and this year we made the Final Four,” Zelanes said. “Overall, I couldn’t be more proud of the season we had this year.

“Last week (in the quarters vs. Bridgeport) we were down a goal and came back. It might have been different tonight if we could’ve scored just one goal. This group in particular had no quite. They always played 90 minutes of soccer.”

But unfortunately, they’ll have to wait until next April for the next 90 minutes.
