Verrette’s pitching helps Rivier split vs. Albertus Magnus

NASHUA — The Rivier University softball team bounced back from a tough first game loss to salvage a split with Albertus Magnus on Senior Day at Raider Diamond on Friday.
The Raiders wrapped up the regular season at 18-22 overall, and 4-6 in the GNAC.
Nicole Verrette tossed a four-hit shutout to end the regular season in style for Riv, striking out one with no walks.
Kylee Cataneo led the Raiders’ nine-hit attack, going 3 for 4 atop the lineup with two RBIs. Christina Panagiotopoulos had a hit and two RBIs, a two-run triple in the sixth to basically clinch the win. Olivia Couto had a two-run double in the fifth.
The visitors won in eight innings in the opener on Anna Leone’s tie-breaking single in the top of the eight. Riv’s lone run was scored in the second on Alyssa Gerardi’s game-tying RBI single. Sydney Greeno went all eight innings, allowing eight hits in taking the tough loss.
