Raiders get another doubleheader sweep, routing Elms

NASHUA — The Rivier University softball team completed its second doubleheader sweep in 24 hours on Thursday, besting Elms 11-7 and 20-2.
Rivier is now 17-21 overall, 4-6 in GNAC play.
The Blazers were unable to score in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, Christina Panagiotopoulos singled to left sending Sarah Fraizer home collecting an unearned run for Rivier.
In the second inning the Raiders scored another unearned run from Josie Maggiore’s sac fly to center field.
Avry Nelson (Methuen, MA) of Riv hit a sac fly to right, giving Fraizer enough time to cross the plate. Kayla Miles ) reached first from a throwing error, pushing Panagiotopoulos and Haley Rapaglia home, both unearned.
In the fourth inning Elms put up six runs to take the lead off four hits.
Miles of Rivier bunted for a hit and Panagiotopoulos was able to score from an error committed by first base in the bottom of the fifth. Maggiore singled to right, sending Christina Louh (Pelham, NH) home to tie the score at 6-6. Fraizer doubled to left center, earning 2 RBIs and to take the lead.
The Raiders let up a run in top six from a wild pitch. In the bottom of the sixth, Raiders’ Nelson was forced home from Maggiore being walked. Kyleigh Guerette (Merrimack, NH) earned a base hit to center, scoring Miles to increase the Raiders lead 11-7.
Sydney Greeno (Shirley, MA) of Rivier took the win, earning four strikeouts.
In the nightcap, The Blazers quickly got on the board in the first inning with two runs generated by a double and a sac fly. In the bottom of the first, Haley Rapaglia (Methuen, MA) hit a double to left center collecting 2 RBIs. Christina Panagiotopoulos (Lowell, MA) hit a two-run home run, followed by a homer from Olivia Couto (Fairhaven, MA) to put the Raiders up 5-2.
In the second inning, the Raiders scored 12 runs from two hits.Miles doubled, and Rapaglia singled up the middle and the rout was on.
In the bottom of the third, Rapaglia doubled pushing in two runners. Panagiotopoulos also doubled, sending one runner home.
Rapaglia was 3-for-5, with 6 RBIs and 4 runs while Panagiotopoulos was 2-for-3, with 3 RBIs and 3 runs and Couto was 1-for-3, with 3 RBIs and 2 runs.
Rivier will face Albertus Magnus College today in non-conference action at 3 and 5 p.m. at Raider Diamond.
