Raiders fall behind early, can’t recover vs. Wilkes, 3-1

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Rivier University men’s hockey team fell Sunday afternoon to Wilkes University to end the Skidmore Tournament 0-2.

Wilkes essentially won the game in the first period scoring all three goals. Nick Godfrey put the Colonels on the board just 28 seconds in. At 12:52, Matt Carlson would put Wilkes up 2-0, followed by the final score of the day for Riv’s opponent by Ben Stefanini at 18:10.

The Raiders would score a single goal in the second period at 18:28 with an unassisted score by Kurt Watson.

Andrew LoRusso entered the game in the second period playing 37:23 minutes, seeing 17 shots, and saving all of them. Michael Paterson-Jones got the win in net for the Colonels saving 19 of the 20 shots he faced.

The Raiders had to overcome 17 penalty minutes, and also went 0-for-3 on the power play.

Rivier will be back next Saturday against Framingham State at Warrior Arena in Boston at 7 p.m.
