It was a split decision for Rivier University athletics on Tuesday night, with a women’s hockey victory and unfortunately for Raider fans a men’s basketball defeat, both on the road.

Here’s the rundown:

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY

RIVIER 3, JOHNSON & WALES 1

JWU got the scoring going at Attleboro, Mass in the first period on a shorthanded goal by Kaylin Garner, but the Raiders (2-4-2) controlled the scoreboard the rest of the way. At 7:12 into the period, the Raiders tied the game up off a goal from Jessica Driscoll from Angeline Rasby.

Brianna Rumptz gave Riv the lead 50 seconds into the second period. The last goal came in the third period on an empty net opportunity by Briana Paxson.

Rachel Hinkley racked up 35 saves to improve to 2-1-2 on the season. Johnson & Wales goalie Anna Maulson made eight saves.

Rivier will be back this weekend on Saturday against Assumption at 7 p.m at Nashua’s Conway Arena.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

NEC 64, RIVIER 55

The Raiders (2-5) seemed to struggle from behind the three-point line in Henniker, shooting just 14.3% (3-21), although New England College, which picked up its first win (1-5) shot just 17.6% (3-17).

But Riv’s scoring was down. Nikolas Pignone led Rivier in scoring with 12 points and six rebounds. Goffstown’s Robenson Baguidy and Pharaoh Davis contributed another 10 points each.

The Pilgrims found their stride behind Kyle Inglis, who scored a game-high 20 points with six rebounds and four assists. Khalon Taylor added 10 more points, while Alex Williams cleaned up on the boards with 12 rebounds.

Riv is off until it takes on UMass Boston next Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Muldoon Center.
