WATERVILLE, Me. — The Rivier University men’s basketball team fell to Thomas College 87-79 in non-conference action Thursday night.
The Raiders were outshot by the Terriers throughout the contest. Thomas shot an impressive 58.8% from the field compared to Rivier’s 38.2%.
The Raiders (1-4) kept the game close, only falling behind by seven points in the first half, but couldn’t make up that ground in the second. Joseph Buford returned from missing Tuesday night’s game with the flu and made the most of his first game back, scoring a game-high 24 points to go with his team-high seven rebounds. Nikolas Pignone added 18 points of his own in the effort.
Thomas had four in double digits in scoring. Matthew Hadnot led the team with 23 points, along with eight rebounds. Parker Desjardins added a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Rivier men’s basketball will be back in action Sunday at 12 p.m. against non-conference opponent Lesley University.
