NASHUA — The Rivier University men’s hockey team vaulted over the .500 mark with a 4-2 win over Southern New Hampshire University at Conway Arena.

In the first period, Cormac Hayes scored for Riv (3-2-1) with assists credited to Logan Dapprich and Zak Justice.

SNHU answered back in the second period with a goal from Ryan Pomposelli, assists from Jackson Aldrich and George Thurston. Riv’s Avery Arnold was able to score on a power play with passes from Jon Tavella and Kurt Watson . SNHU was able to muscle through with a Alex Muthersbaugh goal and assist from Brendan Lynch to tie the game at 2.

However, the Raiders fought back with a much-needed, game-winning goal scored by Kurt Watson ) and the assists credited to Zach Winslow and Ashton Jones. Nicolas Paolucci later fired the puck into an empty net, securing the win for Riv.

Will Augustine had 33 saves for the Raiders in net, taking the win. Cam Bernard had 25 saves for the Penmen.

Rivier men’s ice hockey will take on SUNY Morrisville Friday at 7 p.m. at Conway Arena.

Unfortunately, of the three Raider teams that played last night, hockey was the only winner:

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

PLYMOUTH STATE 73, RIVIER 64

The Rivier University women’s basketball team was outscored 28-11 in the fourth quarter to fall 73-64 to host Plymouth State on Tuesday night.

The Raiders came out firing, putting up 27 points in the first quarter as Manchester’s Lyric Grumblatt scored 11 of her 29 points then.

Unfortunately, they slowed after that as Plymouth worked its way back, starting in the second quarter, cutting into the lead. The difference came in the fourth.

Grumblatt had the game-high with 29 points to go with her five rebounds and three steals. Bishop Guertin alum Hannah Muchemore added 16 points and six rebounds in the effort.

The Panthers had that third person to hit double digits to add to Sophie George’s 25 points and Jalen Cook’s 17 points and 15 rebounds giving her the double-double.

Rivier will be back this weekend when they take on Worcester State in the Wesleyan Tournament at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
