Raiders move to 2-0 with 77-52 win in home opener
NASHUA– The Rivier University women’s basketball team is now 2-0 on the season with a 77-52 win over Nichols College in non-conference action Thursday night in their home opener at the Muldoon Center.
Rivier picked up the pace in the second half to earn a 20-point lead over the Bison. Manchester’s Lyric Grumblatt led the Raiders with 24 points while Nashua’s Hannah Muchemore had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Riv’s Bea Stafford contributed 11 points, and Alexa Dufries added 12 points.
It was Nichols’ first game of the season, and they did not get the result they hoped for. Kiera Fernandes led the Bison with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Abrianna Vazquez put up 12 points for Nichols.
Shots were not falling for the visitors, with a field goal percentage of 24.3%. Rivier also outrebounded Nichols 55-37.
Rivier will travel to Waterville, Me. Saturday to face Colby College in non-conference action at 3 p.m.
