Stunner: Simmons upsets Rivier in GNAC volleyball semis

NASHUA — The top seeded Rivier University women’s volleyball team was upset Thursday night by Simmons University, 3-2, in the GNAC Semifinals at the Muldoon Center.
After going up 2-0 on the visiting Sharks, the Raiders lost control of the match. After some rotation changes in the third and fourth sets, Claire Conners went off with little to no resistance on the net from Riv, allowing her to rack up 27 kills.
The next closest hitter to her only had nine kills. Kat Simeonidis had an all-around game with 40 assists, 13 digs, and six aces. April Beatty had a match-high 27 digs for Simmons.
Rivier was led by Sydney Racevicius in both kills with 18 and digs with 19. Avery Pollard also was all over the court, racking up 39 assists, 16 digs, and five kills.
Simmons (18-10) moves on to Saturday’s finals while the Raiders season ends at 25-5.
