Rivier women’s volleyball team advances to GNAC semis

NASHUA — Rivier women’s volleyball handled St. Joe’s College easily Tuesday night in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinals, 3-0.

The Raiders breezed to a 25-13, 25-9, 25-7 sweep, improving to 26-4 overall, and will host Simmons University at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the GNAC semis at the Muldoon Center.

The Raiders dominated each set from start to close. The match opened up on a 10-0 run from Riv behind Avery Pollard’s serving. She wasn’t the only one who was serving with a purpose, as the team finished with a season-high 23 aces. Pollard had seven, along with teammate Sofia Pawlusik racking up five. The Raiders had 30 kills in the match, with Sydney Racevicius leading the way with 10. Pawlusik held down the defense, tallying 14 digs. Pollard had a match-high 23 assists, along with two kills and four digs.

The Monks (13-18) finished the match with eight kills. Victoria Briones had the team-high with three kills and 11 digs. Hanna Holden had three assists.
