DURHAM – Junior running back Dylan Laube (Westhampton, N.Y.) amassed 200 all-purpose yards, including a 77-yard touchdown run, to lead the 25th-ranked University of New Hampshire football team to Saturday afternoon’s 40-22 victory against 21st-ranked Elon University in front of a Family Weekend crowd of 14,137 at Wildcat Stadium.

UNH won its third consecutive game to improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 at home, and the Wildcats remain the only undefeated team in the CAA at 5-0. Elon moves to 5-3, 3-2.

Laube finished with 22 carries for 147 yards, three catches for 10 yards and two punt returns for 43 yards, including a 43-yarder that set up UNH’s touchdown that gave the Wildcats a 14-0 lead.

Sophomore quarterback Max Brosmer (Roswell, Ga.) completed 19 of 32 passes for 220 yards and two TDs and also rushed five times for 49 yards with a 42-yard touchdown run.

Freshman DJ Linkins (Adamstown, Md.) was the top receiver with five catches for 58 yards. Senior Sean Coyne (Portsmouth, R.I.) had two receptions for a team-high 61 yards, including a 14-yard TD catch.

Sophomore Caleb Mead (Willow Grove, Pa.) finished with a career- and team-high seven tackles. Sophomore Dylan Ruiz (Kissimmee, Fla.) was one of four Wildcats with six tackles; the made two stops behind the line of scrimmage.

Elon quarterback Matthew McKay was 8 of 15 for 185 yards and a pair of touchdowns; he also had 11 carries for 61 yards. Jalen Hampton led the ground game with 17 carries for 84 yards and Jordan Bonner made four catches for 90 yards.

UNH’s defense forced the Phoenix to a 3-and-out on the game’s opening possession and then the UNH offense needed just three plays to take a 7-0 lead at 12:03.

The Phoenix had a quick reply as McKay connected with Bryson Daughtry downfield for a 50-yard scoring play that trimmed the deficit to 14-7 at 12:13.

The ‘Cats responded with a 10-play, 71-yard drive capped by a 24-yard quarterback draw up by middle by freshman Barry Kleinpeter (Savannah, Ga.). Mazzie’s PAT pushed the score to 21-7 at 7:33.

A 36-yard punt by sophomore Sean Lehane (Milford, Mass.) pinned the visitors at the Elon 4. On 3rd-and-9, sophomore defensive ends Josiah Silver (Hampton, Va.) and Dylan Ruiz (Kissimmee, Fla.) pressured McKay to throw the ball away from the pocket, which resulted in an intentional grounding penalty and safety for the Wildcats to give UNH a 23-7 lead at 2:35.

After forcing the ‘Cats to punt on the opening possession of the second half, Elon quickly advanced the ball downfield with three completions of more than 15 yards, then scored on a 23-yard pass from McKay to Chandler Brayboy. On the 2-point conversion, McKay executed a QB draw up the middle to make it a one possession game, 23-15, at 8:44.

On UNH’s next drive, the Wildcats faced 3rd-and-14 at the Elon 25. Brosmer hit grad student Heron Maurisseau (Bellport, N.Y.) on a hook route at the Elon 20. Maurisseau split a pair of defenders at the 15, shed off a tackler at the 10 and sped into the end zone to extend the advantage to 30-15 at 5:13. UNH would later extend the lead to 40-15 in the fourth quarter.

New Hampshire returns to action Nov. 5 at No. 19/21 University of Richmond.

The Wildcats’ next home game is Senior Day on Nov. 12 against No. 22/19 University of Rhode Island.
