HANOVER – Sophomore quarterback Max Brosmer passed for one touchdown and ran for another as the University of New Hampshire football team won the Granite Bowl with a 14-0 non-conference victory against Dartmouth College at Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon.
Brosmer capped the first possession of the game with a 2-yard touchdown pass to senior Brian Espanet and closed the first half with an 8-yard TD run to give the Wildcats a 14-0 lead. He finished the game completing 20 of 29 passes for 217 yards.
Sophomore running back Isaac Seide (Everett, Mass.) recorded career highs with 26 carries for 127 yards; he also caught two passes for 22 yards. Redshirt freshman Joey Corcoran (Montreal, Quebec) led UNH with six catches for 89 yards.
New Hampshire recorded its first shutout since Oct. 27, 2018, when the Wildcats won 24-0 at Villanova University. The Wildcat limited Dartmouth to 58 rushing yards and 140 passing yards for a total of 198 yards, all of which are season lows for a UNH opponent.
Grad student Pop Bush was UNH’s top tackler with five, including one tackle for loss; he also recovered a fumble and had one pass breakup.
UNH won its second consecutive game to improve to 5-2 overall and is the only remaining undefeated team in CAA conference play at 4-0. Dartmouth moves to 1-4 overall.
The second quarter was a key. On a drive that started at 8:43, Dartmouth advanced the ball to the UNH 10, but on fourth down sophomore Noah Stansbury stopped quarterback Dylan Cadwallader for a five-yard loss on a fake field goal attempt to give possession back to the ‘Cats at 3:45.
Brosmer hit grad student Heron Maurisseau (Bellport, N.Y.) in stride down the left sideline for a 41-yard gain to advance the ball to the DC 24. On 2nd-and-goal from the DC 8, Brosmer ran a draw up the middle in which he bounced off a teammate and a defender to force his way into the end zone. Mazzie’s PAT made it 14-0 with 29 seconds on the clock.
Dartmouth fumbled the ball away on another key drive in the third quarter.
New Hampshire returns to action next Saturday in Durham for Family Weekend against Elon University.
