Rivier Roundup: Men’s soccer ties Emmanuel; women fall

Two Rivier University soccer teams were in action on Wednesday. There were no wins, but only one loss.

That’s because the Raider men played GNAC rival Emmanuel to a 0-0 draw at Joanne Merrill Field. Meanwhile, the Raider women weren’t so fortunate, falling to Norwich 4-1 in Northfield, Vt.

Here’s the rundown:

MEN’S SOCCER

RIVIER 0, EMMANUEL 0

Emmanuel had 16 shots on goal, while Rivier had six shots, but neither team could find the back of the net.

Dominic Cunha had seven saves in net for the Raiders (3-5-2, GNAC 0-5-1) this evening. For the Saints (4-4-3, GNAC 2-3-2) , Vincent Conelli had five saves in goal.

The Raiders weren’t awarded any corner kicks while they survived eight by Emmanuel. Riv hosts Anna Maria Saturday at 1 p.m.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

NORWICH 4, RIVIER 1

The Cadets got on the board first 18 minutes in after an Isabel Doherty goal. Norwich tacked on one more 11 minutes later to go up 2-0 by way of a Bella Roy score.

The Raiders would get one back just before the half in the 38th minute. Loudon’s Kaylee Magoon found the back of the net for her third goal of the season.

The second half saw two more Cadet goals to extend their lead and get the final of 4-1. Antonia Pellon netted her first goal of the season to put the score at 3-1 in the 46th minute of the contest. Roy would cap the game off with her second goal to get the final.

Julia Cafferty saw 10 shots on goal and saved six for Riv. Rebecca Karis had four saves in net for the Cadets.

The Raiders (0-9-1, 0-6-1) are home Saturday for their Senior Day at 3:30 p.m. vs. Albertus Magnus.
