Laube plays well but UNH falls at Western Michigan, 44-7

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Junior running back Dylan Laube led the University of New Hampshire in both rushing and receiving and scored a touchdown, but the Wildcats were defeated 44-7 by FBS school Western Michigan University at Waldo Stadium on Saturday night.

Laube rushed 22 times for 73 yards and had six catches for 63 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown. Sophomore quarterback Max Brosmer (Roswell, Ga.) completed 22 of 34 passes for 161 yards and one TD. He completed passes to eight different targets.

Grad student and captain Pop Buch (Nocatee, Fla.) finished with a team-high six tackles and was also credited with a pass breakup. Junior Max Oxendine (Chester, Va.) and sophomore Josiah Silver (Hampton, Va.) both had four tackles. Silver had a sack and also converted a fake punt on a 22-yard run.

After WMU took a 28-0 lead at 12:07 of the second quarter, UNH ran 48 offensive plays for 194 yards in comparison to the Broncos’ 31 plays for 86 yards (spanning the final 42:07 of the game).

WMU’s Jack Salopek completed 13 of 23 passes for 252 yards and three TDs. Jefferson La’Darius was the top ground gainer with 36 rushing yards. Corey Crooms was the top receiver with five catches for 109 yards.

UNH moves to 3-2 overall and remains atop the CAA standings at 3-0. WMU is now 2-3.

Western Michigan won the turnover battle with four takeaways (two fumble recoveries and two interceptions) in comparison to UNH’s one (interception).

WMU outgained the Wildcats 356-205, but New Hampshire had the edge in time of possession at 38:56 to 21:04.

The Broncos’ defense recorded seven sacks as part of 17 tackles for loss.

New Hampshire returns to action next Saturday for Homecoming against Stony Brook University. Opening kickoff is 3:30 p.m.
