It was one up and one down for Rivier University on Wednesday, with men’s soccer getting its second win of the season while field hockey had a tough trip to Plymouth:
MEN’S SOCCER
RIVIER 2, FISHER 0
The Raiders (2-1-1) took the lead late in the first half against the Falcons. Charles Hayes (Wethersfield, CT) was able to play the ball back to Salem’s Cody Sicard, whose shot was deflected off of a Falcon defender for the goal.
In the second half, Jason Harlow snuck past the defenders and the goalie to rocket in the second Raider goal of the night.
Riv keeper Dominic Cunha had two saves in goal, taking the win. Mario Iglesias, is typically a field player, also payed goal and had two saves.
FIELD HOCKEY
PLYMOUTH STATE 6, RIVIER 2
The first half was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. The Raiders (1-3) got on the board first in the first quarter on a Sydney Spenard (Manchester) goal just 58 seconds in.
But the 3-2 Panthers were quick to respond just 1:25 in after Amy Cohen beat the Riv keeper. Madison Bovill would end the quarter with a second Raider goal to give the visiting squad a 2-1 advantage.
Plymouth would net just one in the second quarter to tie the game back up before the half. Alessia Salzillo would net the unassisted goal to bring the score to 2-2.
The second half was all Plymouth as they would put up four more goals to give them the 6-2 win. Three goals would come in the third quarter from Athena Comeau, Taylor Healey, and Jen Newick. Comeau added a goal in the fourth quarter.
Rivier will be back in action Saturday at home against Simmons University in GNAC action at 11 a.m.
