Nashua Cal Ripken All-Stars make NE Regional semis
NEW CANAAN, Conn. — Don’t look now, but the Nashua 11U Cal Ripken All-Stars are just one win away from the finals of the New England Regional Baseball Tournament.
Nashua downed Lowell 4-1 in Wednesday night’s quarterfinals, and will now face West Hartford (Conn.) in the semifinals today at 4:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Regional championship game.
Nashua and Lowell were tied 1-1 before Nashua pulled away with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Nashua’s offense was led by Aaron Ackerman, who had two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
Pitching was the key in this win. Garrett Schmidt went 3.2 innings, holding Lowell to its one run. Cole Dube tossed scoreless fifth and sixth innings, getting the final six outs.
