PLYMOUTH – It’s official: Former Nashua High School South standout Terrell Lewis, now of New Boston and a senior at Plymouth State University, will be one of 20 student-athletes to compete for a national title in the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships at The SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio next week.

The NCAA Championships open on Thursday, though the preliminary heats for the 110-meter hurdles are scheduled for day two (Friday) at 2:30 p.m. Should he advance, the finals will take place next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Lewis is a veteran of national championship meets, already having capture dual All-America honors. He appeared at the 2019-20 indoor championships in the 60-meter hurdles, though the race was canceled due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, then finished third in the 110-meter hurdles at last spring’s outdoor championships. Lewis is seeking to become PSU track and field’s second three-time All-American, following Sam Brunnette (Indoor: 2017-18 and 2018-19 3000-meter run; Outdoor: 2018 3000-meter steeplechase).

Lewis has been trending in the right direction over the course of the season, having saved more than a half-second off his time throughout the year.

He posted times of 14.57 and 14.49 at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Championships last weekend, before cruising at yesterday’s MIT Final Qualifier with a 14.47 in the preliminaries and a season best 14.43 in the finals to place second in the event.

“Terrell is back where he belongs,” said head coach John Ostler at the conclusion of Thursday’s meet. “I know a lot of hurdlers across the country would have preferred he didn’t qualify, but he did not oblige. His best is yet to come. I expect big things for him next week.”
