Rivier Roundup: Women’s lax wins; GNAC honors for Heitmiller

NASHUA — The Rivier University women’s lacrosse team took a 5-3 lead after one quarter and held on for a 13-11 win Tuesday over Anna Maria at Joanne Merrill Field in their regular season finale.
Sarah Lachance led the way for the Raiders (4-11) with six goals and an assist, including two big goals Rachel Hinkley added three goals and an assist. Litchfield’s Caitlin Newell had two goals, while Nashua’s Ashley Wilder had a goal and three assists. Chiara Skeels had an assist.
Lindsey Kruger had seven saves for the Raiders, who won the ground ball battle 29-19.
HONORS FOR NASHUA’S HEITMILLER, SALEM’S FERRENCE
The Rivier men’s lacrosse team had two student-athletes earn weekly awards for their performances last week. Michael Ference (Salem) and Chris Heitmiller of Nashua received Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors,respectively.
Heitmiller played a key role in the Raiders 2-0 effort this past week. He completed a hat trick in both games against Saint Joseph’s College and Johnson & Wales. Heitmiller also dished out one assist per contest. Overall, Heitmiller finished with six goals, two assists, and four groundballs.
Ference played a key role in both contests completing a hat trick and adding two assists in one game (SJC) and four in the other (JWU). Overall, Ference finished with a team high six goals along with six assists.
The Rivier men’s lacrosse team has an overall record of 12-3 and 7-2 in GNAC play. They look to host a first-round playoff game this Saturday as the GNAC’s three-seed.
