Rivier Roundup: Men’s volleyball headed to GNAC semis

NASHUA — The Rivier men’s volleyball team took down Emmanuel College in three straight sets Tuesday in the GNAC Quarterfinals, 25-17, 25-19, 25-15 at the Muldoon Center.
The 17-9 Raiders will now move on to the GNAC Semifinals at Lasell University on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Raiders outhit the visiting Saints in all three sets. The first was Rivier’s most productive, with 17 kills compared to Emmanuel’s five.
David Smith led all with 13 kills and six digs. Pedro Campos racked up 38 assists and five digs.
The second set was the closest between the two teams, with the Raiders finishing with 12 kills to the Saints 11. The difference in the match was Isaac Borges four aces and two more errors by the visiting team.
The third set had the Raiders best kill percentage with .500 after tallying 13 kills and just two errors. Emmanuel put 11 attempts down with four errors.
Rivier’s defense helped this be a lopsided contest with 11 blocks to Emmanuel’s six. Jack Hromada helped dig out 11 of the Raiders 35. Jyles Amirault dug out nine of his team’s 27 digs.

The first quarter saw a lot of scoring but saw the Chargers come out on top 6-4. The Raiders (2-8, 1-7 GNAC) had four different players score in the first, with Litchfield’s Caitlin Newell starting it off, followed by Rachel Hinkley, Audrey Schnoor and Sarah LaChance. For the Chargers, the quarter was highlighted by three goals for Sophia Kuhlthau.
The Chargers broke the game open with five goals in the third period.
Hinkley, Newell, and LaChance all scored two goals each for the Raiders, while Hudson’s Rose Daddario had a goal.
Rivier will be back in action Saturday on the road at Regis College for a 12 p.m. game.
