Raider nine can’t get offense going in doubleheader loss

The offense was silent in the sun for the Rivier University baseball team on Wednesday.
The Raiders fell to 0-5 on their southern trip, blanked twice in a doubleheader by Penn College, 10-0 and 12-0 at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
In the opener, Sam Ziegler and Tristan Current checked the Raiders on two hits, combining for nine strikeouts. Riv’s only hits were singles by Frank Gulezian and Zach White.
Meanwhile Penn College pounded out 16 hits off Raider pitching. Starter Jake Mainey of Merrimack took the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings.
In the nightcap, the Raiders were held to three hits, one each by Cole Beckeritis, Gulezian and Jake Boudreau. Penn had 10 hits as Tim Scott fell to 9-2 on the trip, giving up nine runs on seven hits over 3.2 innings.
Penn Reliever Joe Verrico fanned seven over four innings to get the win.
The Raiders have today off and are back at it Friday at 6 p.m. vs. Clark University.
