It was a tough start to the warm weather week for the Rivier University baseball and softball teams.

The Raiders softball squad lost Tuesday to Heidelberg, 12-1 in five innings in Leesburg, Fla. and later in the day dropped a tough 2-0 decision to Plymouth State to fall to 0-4. Meanwhile, on Monday, the RAiders baseball team fell twice to 14-4 and 17-6.

After losing to Alvernia 15-2 on Monday, the Raiders struggled offensively vs. Heidelberg yesterday with just two hits, one each by Olivia Boucher and Kylie Poisson. Poisson scored the lone Raider run on the entire day with a steal of home.

Starter Emma Langer (seven runs, but only two earned) took the loss in the circle. In the nightcap, Riv’s Nicole Verrette was the hard-luck loser, despite allowing just two runs on five hits over six innings. That’s because here PSU counterpart, Nicole Lebrun checked the Raiders on six hits, walking two, fanning seven in seven frames of shutout ball. Micayla Bourski had two hits to lead the Raider attack.

The Raiders are off today before taking on Mount Union and Wheaten (Ill.) on Thursday.

Late Monday, the Raider baseball team struggled on the mound, giving up 31 runs total. In the first game vs. Hilbert, the Raiders allowed 13 hits but committed five errors. Eleven of the 14 runs were earned.

Starter Tim Scott (seven runs on six hits over 1.2 innings) took the loss in the opener, while Zach White led Riv at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

In the nightcap, Rivier jumped out to leads of 3-0 and 4-1 but gave up a whopping 12 runs in the top of the seventh. Reliever John Jepson (six runs on two hits, three walks) took the loss, while starter Corey Cochran had a decent outing, allowing five runs on six hits over six innings, striking out four and walking one.

Offensively, the Raiders got three hits each from Scott (double, triple) and Frank Gulezian (double).

The Raiders will take on Penn College at Myrtle Beach today in a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
