NASHUA — History was made at the Muldoon Fitness Center on Saturday.

Sophomore sensation Lyric Grumblatt broke the Rivier University women’s basketball program’s single season scoring record with her season high 44 points, along with 10 rebounds and seven steals, as the Raiders closed out the regular season with their seventh straight win, 83-59, over conference foe Johnson & Wales.

Rivier, as the sixth seed at 9-8 GNAC (13-11 overall), will now host No. 11 Anna Maria this Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament.

Saturday was also Senior Day for the Raiders, as they honored Ciera Clark (Pembroke, NH) and Cydney Lessard (Auburn, NH).

After just a three-point difference in the first half, the Raiders came out strong in the third quarter. They ran out to a 32-point lead by scoring 31 in the third to JWU’s nine.

Grumblatt added onto her 16 first half points, with 19 in the third quarter alone and another nine in the fourth. Lessard contributed one of her best scoring games of the season with 12 points and five rebounds.

Peyton Oliver and Rose Hockman ran the Wildcats offense with 36 points combined. Oliver put up a team high 21 points and eight rebounds. Hockman had 15 points and 15 rebounds.

RIVIER 69, JWU 65

The Raiders (10-14, 6-11 GNAC) were able to come out on top in a game where there were five lead changes. As a result, Rivier will travel to No. 6 Norwich as the 11th seed in the first round of the GNAC tournament at 7 p.m, the Raiders’ first tourney appearance in the last few years.

Rivier was paced by Josef Buford, who had nine of his 15 points in the second half, to go with his nine rebounds, and three assists.

Will Parsons also had 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Parsons and fellow senior Miles Gillette were honored as part of the Raiders’ Senior Day festivities.

JWU’s Josh Zangerle had a game high 26 points and six rebounds.

JWU took a two-point lead into the break after a dominate half by Zangerle, who went 5-7 from behind the three-point line, scoring 15 points. The Raiders played their best team basketball in the first half with six players scoring around six points each. Nikolas Pignone (Stoneham, MA) had the team high of nine points.

The Wildcats maintained their lead for the majority of the second half until there was less than one minute left. With 41 seconds left, Gillette found an open Parsons in the corner, who in turn sunk the go ahead three-point shot. With the score at 67-65 in the Raiders favor, Pharaoh Davis (Plainville, MA) would go 2-for-2 from the free throw line to seal it for Rivier.

WORCESTER STATE 3, RIVIER 2

The game was tied 2-2 up until 17:50 into the third when Kiersten Erickson put Worcester back on top 3-2 with the game-winner in Riv’s final home game of the season.

Worcester State got on the board in the first period on an Amy MacGlashing goal. The Lancers held the 1-0 lead until 6:40 into the second period, when the Raiders knotted it up at one. Heather McHatton took advantage of a shielded goaltender and took a one timer from straight away.
