Rivier to begin allowing spectators back into the Muldoon
The doors to the Muldoon Fitness Center for basketball fans, closed since early January due to the uptick with the pandemic, have been re-opened.
Rivier University has announced an adjustment to the spectator policy for men’s and women’s home basketball games and for men’s home volleyball matches that allows spectators to games, as of Monday.
All spectators will now be allowed in the Muldoon, as long as they are masked. As the university said in a statement issued yesterday, “It is a university rule that masks are required and must be properly worn in all Rivier campus buildings. Spectators attending games in the Muldoon Center gym must follow the mask requirement.”
And, the statement added, “Spectators not following the Rivier mask mandate will be asked to leave the facility.”
For Rivier ice hockey games at Conway Arena, spectators must also be masked. Fans have been allowed at Conway, a private facility, throughout the Muldoon ban, as long as they worre masks.
Of course, anything can change as the men’s and women’s basketball seasons enter their final two weeks. The regular seasons end for both teams on Feb. 19. The women’s hockey team has two home games left: Tonight vs. Salem State and Feb. 19 vs. Worcester State. The men skaters have no home games left and wrap up their season at the GNAC Commissioner’s Cup Tourney in West Springfield, Mass. on Feb. 18-19.
“Rivier University continues to monitor Covid-19,” the school said. “The health and safety of the Rivier Community are always our priorities, and we will adjust health and safety policies as needed. We ask spectators to help us in this effort and to honor our mask requirements for all spectators.”
Also, school officials said, that for fans who travel, spectator policies vary at different schools and those schools’ websites should be checked before planning to attend Raider road games.
