New Haven, Conn. and the campus of Albertus Magnus University wasn’t even a nice place to visit Saturday for the Rivier University men’s and women’s basketball teams.

The Raider women fell 87-67 while the men fell 97-78.

In the women’s game, the Falcons (2-6, 2-1 GNAC) took an early lead against the Raiders (4-5, 0-2 GNAC) and never surrendered it. After a two-point first quarter, Albertus took over from there with a 21 point second compared to Rivier’s 11.

After seeing a deficit of 12 to start the second half, the Raiders would win the third quarter 22 to 18 but not a big enough margin to see that deficit shrink. The Falcons would make up for the laps in the third by dropping 25 in the fourth quarter compared to Rivier’s 16.

Jakara Murray-Leach was the top scorer this afternoon with 28 points and seven rebounds. Just behind her was Katherine Raposo, who added another 17 points.

Lyric Grumblatt led the Raiders with 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Alex Dufries added 17 and five boards.

In the men’s contest, the Raiders only lead was after they made the game’s first hoop. The Falcons pulled away to take a 13-point lead into the break. The Second half saw Albertus grow their lead behind Justice Washington, who scored a team high nine points in the final 20 minutes.

The Falcons (5-1, 3-0 GNAC) had four people score double digits in the contest, with Tyreek Perkins topping the team with 20 points. Terry Dawkins had 16 points and 14 rebounds to be the second person on the team to complete the double-double. Washington also reached that feat with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Miles Gillette (Washington, DC) did everything he could to keep the Raiders (3-5, 0-2 GNAC) in the game. He scored a game high 27 points with 14 rebounds. Pharaoh Davis (Plainville, MA) made an impact while coming off an injury scoring 15 points.

Both the Raider men and women are off until Jan. 4 when they travel to Regis College for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
