Rivier hockey teams split with Anna Maria AMCATS

NASHUA –The Rivier men’s hockey took down the AMCATS of Anna Maria College Friday night at Conway Arena thanks to two third period goals for a 3-1 final.
The women, however, couldn’t hold a slim third period lead en route to a 6-4 loss to the AMCATS in Marlborough, Mass.
In the men’s game, after a scoreless first period, the Raiders (4-5-1) broke the tie with a power play goal at 9:58 into the second period. After two Anna Maria (3-5-2) penalties to give the Raiders a 5-3 advantage Tyler Duderstadt (Sewickley, Pa.) found the back of the net.
The AMCATS would respond at 11:02 into the period to tie it back up at one all. After another AMC penalty, Patrick Manning would take a wrist shot from just above the right circle that somehow found its way between Luke Newell’s (Littleton, Col.) leg pads for a shorthanded goal. Other than that, Newell had another stellar 34-save game.
The third period would be all Rivier, starting off just 6 minutes in with another powerplay goal by Milan Breczko (Klasterec, CZR) to give the Raiders a 2-1 advantage.
Rivier would tack on one more with about a minute left by way of an empty net from Jon Tavella.
The Raiders will be back on the ice next Friday when they travel to Post University for an 8 p.m. game.
ANNA MARIA 6, RIVIER WOMEN 4
The AMCATS went into the third down 3-2 and had their biggest period of the year as they racked up four goals. riley Cote would net her second of the game, along with Grace Dodge. Raven Carriere would tack on another along with a power play goal from Sarah Sammons.
Rivier, which led 3-1 at one point, did score in the third to go up 4-3 before Anna Maria went on a three-goal streak to get the 6-4 final. That goal was scored by Briana Paxson (Eagle River, Alaska).
Rachel Symmes (Chugiak, Alaska) was in net for the Raiders (0-6, 0-3 NEHA) this evening. She tallied an impressive 41 saves.
The AMCATS got on the board first just eight minutes into the contest off of a Cote goal. Rivier would respond just over four minutes later with Margaret Dickson’s (Brewster, MA) first goal of the season.
Dickson would open up the second period with a second goal just three minutes in to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead. Jenna Stevens (Riverside, R.I.) would add one more in the period to boost Rivier to a two-goal lead at 3-1. Anna Maria would get one back at the 12:37 mark by way of Dodge.
The Raiders next host the University of Rhode Island club team next Friday at 7 p.m. at Conway Arena.
