Arizona State completes two-game hockey sweep of UNH
TEMPE, Ariz. – Matthew Kopperud posted two goals and two assists for ASU as the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team fell to Arizona State, 5-1, on Saturday at the Oceanside Ice Arena.
The Wildcats fall to 2-2-0 and ASU improves to 3-3-0.
ASU took a 1-0 lead with a power play goal by Kopperud at 6:45 of the first period on a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle.
At 1:22 of the second period, Ty Murchison gave ASU a 2-0 advantage as he scored on a rebound off a shot by Colin Theisen.
Then at 7:05 of the second period, Theisen netted a shorthanded goal to extend the lead to 3-0.
Tim Lovell increased the lead to 4-1 at 14:40 of the second period.
Junior forward Harrison Blaisdell (Regina, Saskatchewan) scored his first goal as a UNH Wildcat at 5:05 of the third period when he knocked in a loose puck to the lower glove side of the net. Senior forward Filip Engarås (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman forward Robert Cronin (Plymouth, Mass.) each posted an assist on the goal.
A late power play goal by Kopperud at 18:43 made the final score 5-1.
The Wildcats will return to action when they open conference play on Sunday, Oct. 24 vs. No. 10 Providence at 5 p.m. at the Whittemore Center.
