Rivier managed to salvage a win in four women’s sports contests on Saturday.

The Raiders volleyball team split a tri-match with Westfield State (3-0 win) and Maine Maritime (3-2 loss).

Meanwhile, it was a tough day in the sun for the Raider women’s field hockey and women’s soccer teams.

Here’s the rundown:

Riv was able to hold off Westfield, 25-14, 26-24, 27-25, behind the arms of Brynn Roche (Johnston, RI), Lily Sills (Carlisle, MA), and Lily Blodgett (Dunstable, MA).

Roche finished with a match high 11 kills and two block assists. Sills tallied ten kills of her own along with two aces and five digs. Blodgett also put together a ten kill morning with three digs.

In the Maine Maritime match, the Raiders jumped up to a 2-0 lead in game two versus the Mariners, but the visiting team wasn’t going away easily as they put together a three set run to take it in five, 25-23, 27-25, 22-25, 23-25, 15-4. The Raiders are now 2-3.

The Raiders struggled to find their groove in sets 3-5 and finished the game with a .068 kill percentage. Sills found herself leading the team with 12 kills. She was followed by Blodgett, who finished with 11 kills. Pollard added 36 more assists onto her stats for the season.

Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, NY) was once again the driving force of the Rivier offense finishing with 34 assists, three kills, and six digs.
