NEWTON, Mass. — Rivier University men’s soccer coach Hayden Barbosa, in remaking his program, clearly is putting a lot of trust in a large contingent of freshmen.

And one from Nashua came through for him on Wednesday.

Nashua South alum Ryan Hadouche scored what proved to be the eventual game winner in the 83rd minite as the Raiders opened up Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a 3-2 win over Lasell.

The goal was Hadouche’s first collegiate score and gave the Raiders a 3-1 lead. It was much-needed insurance as Lasell’s Jake Ouellette tallied his second goal of the game just one minute later to get the final of 3-2.

Riv evened its record at 1-1, 1-0 in the GNAC, while Lasell fell to 0-4, 0-3.

The Raiders found the back of the net just under 20 minutes into the first half to take a 1-0 lead after freshmen Hayden Bilodeau (Windham, ME) scored his first collegiate goal.

Rivier would put the home team down by 2-0 38:50 into the contest after junior Chris Antonelli (Commack, NY) beat the Laser keeper. Lasell would cut the deficit down to just one at the start of the second half when Ouellette tallied his first of two goals on the day.

The Raiders outshot Lasell 15-13 and had two less fouls (9) than their hosts. Riv will be back in action this Saturday when they face GNAC newcomer Elms College at 1 p.m.
