It was a tough day Saturday for the Nashua James E. Coffey Post #3 Junior American Legion team in the Northeast Regionals in West Havershaw, N.Y.

Nashua dropped both its games in pool play, which eliminated the Coffey Kids from finals contention.

In fact, the loss early in the day 7-4 to Connecticut state champion Wallingford on a walk off three-run homer put Nashua out of contention as that gave Wallingford the “Army Pool” title. Nashua then went on to lose to New York champion Rockland, 12-3.

In the first game, Nashua’s Elias Bourque was very good on the mound, allowing two earned runs on four hits over six innings, striking out four and walking two. Offensively, Trice Cote went 2 for 3 with a walk, Max Riordan drove in two runs while Zak Lussier doubled and had an RBI.

In the second game, Luke Anderson, Dominic Monico and Tyler Gryniewicz all had hits while Cooper Granville (three innings, three hits, one earned run, two strikeouts) pitched well.

Lussier pitched a scoreless inning while Owen Richmond and Jake O’Connor had strong performances in their final appearances of the summer.

Wallingford edged Rockland 11-7 in eight innings on Friday, so it will take its 2-0 record into today’s 10 a.m. single game finals vs. 2-0 Massachusetts champion Weymouth at Pecks Pond Park.

Weymouth beat host Endicott on Friday, 14-2 (six innings), and then Saturday morning topped Rhode Island champ Smithfield/North Providence 4-3 to capture the “Navy Pool”.
