Nashua Silver Knights manager Kyle Jackson said he’s seen signs that the team’s hitting was starting to come around.
Tuesday night they put that in neon.
The Silver Knights pounded out 11 hits, led by John Mead’s 5 for 6, five RBI night in an 11-4 win over the Worcester Bravehearts at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
Mead also scored two runs, and his offensive output included a homer and a triple. He’s now hitting .323 since joining the club a couple of weeks ago.
While Mead struggled in his first five games as a Silver Knight, he’s quickly found his stroke and blossomed into one of the best hitters on the team in the last three games. While he went hitless on July 18, he had three hits — including a double — on July 17.
Also for Nashua, Kevin Skagerlind went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, while Brandon Fish had a hit and scored three runs as the Knights inproved to 14-27 and dropped Worcester to 21-21.
Knights reliever Graham Jefferies got the win despite giving up two runs over 1.1 innings in relief of starter Shea Ryan. Five of Nashua’s runs were unearned thanks to four Worcester errors.
Mead’s offensive outburst was backed up by Ryan, who made his first start of the season after 15 innings out of the bullpen. His performance should be enough to earn him another start, as he pitched 4.2 innings, gave up two runs and struck out seven.
Nashua scored four runs in the third, paced by Mead’s three-run homer, and it scored four more in the sixth to break things open, paced by an RBI single by Mead and RBI double by Sam McNulty.
Nashua returns to Holman Stadium tonight for a 6 p.m. game with Norwich and they stay home Thursday for a Worcester rematch before six straight road games Friday through next Thursday.
