NASHUA – Eight Nashua Silver Knights were named to participate in the return of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game, as rosters were announced on Wednesday.
The game is set for next Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium, which is where it was scheduled for last year before the pandemic forced the cancellation of the game as the FCBL had to play an abbreviated 39-game season.
There will also be a Home Run Derby, but for the first time it will be held separately on Monday night.
Leading the way for Nashua are pitchers Aidan Crowley and Ryan Hohmann, plus infielder Brandon Fish of Londonderry.
The teams were divided into East and West. Players from Nashua, Brockton, Norwich and Worcester make up the East team while the West squad has players from host New Britain, Pittsfield, Vermont and Westfield.
Nashua pitchers selected overall include starter Crowley (Boston College) plus relievers Ryan Murphy (Maryland), Ryan Hohmann (Salve Regina) and Gabe Driscoll (Binghamton).
Position players are catcher Greg Bozzo (Northeastern), plus infielders Brandon Fish of Londonderry (Hartford) and Goffstown’s Connor Hujsak (Virginia Commonwealth), along with outfielder Logan Ott, also from the University of Maryland.
Hohmann, going into Wednesday night’s game vs. Vermont, has the second lowest earned run average of any Nashua reliever at 0.81 in seven appearances (11 innings) with 11 strikeouts. Fellow reliever Mike Untracht of Chelmsford and Iona is at 0.00 as all three of his runs allowed in 9.1 innings are unearned, but he was not picked. Driscoll (0-1, 3.85) has 17 strikeouts in 11.2 innings. Murphy has 11 strikeouts in 7.2 innings.
Crowley, meanwhile, is 2-1, 3.13 as a starter, and has 25 strikeouts in 23 innings. He was also named to the FCBL Team of the Month for late May, when the season began, and all of June.
For position players, Fish is hitting a robust .353 with an OPS of .906 to lead the Knights, going into last night’s game.
Ott was third on the team going into Wednesday with 15 hits.
One player will be added to both the East and West teams via fan vote, with one player from each team on the ballot. Details will be released later this week by the league.
HOME RUN DERBY
The Home Run Derby will have one representative from each team, and Hujsak will be the Silver Knight competing, joining Norwich’s Tremayne Cobb, Brockton’s Steven Loden Worcester’s Alex Neff, Luke Broadhurst of host New Britain, Westfield’s Cole Bartels, Vermont’s Andrew Bergeron and Pittsfield’s Cabot Maher.
For tickets to the All-Star Game, contact the New Britain Bees or go to their website. Admission is free to the Home Run Derby.
“We look forward to the opportunity to showcase our best players with the return of the All-Star Game – our biggest event of the summer – in front of a passionate fan base,” FCBL Commissioner Joe Paolucci said.
