Bentley University senior co-captain Tommy Ethier of Nashua will wrap up his outstanding career by competing in the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships at the PGA National, Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Competition for the 54-hole tournament will begin this morning and run through Wednesday. Sixteen teams and four individuals will comprise the 84-player field. Ethier is scheduled to tee off at 8:36 a.m. today.

Ethier, who’ll be competing in the nationals for the second time, qualified by capturing the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional in a sudden death playoff earlier this month at the Lake View Country Club in North East, Pa. In that event, Ethier, a former Bishop Guertin standout, sandwiched a 75 in between two 74’s for a 54-hole score of 223.

In 2019, Bentley qualified for the nationals as a team. Ethier was the Falcons’ top finisher, tying for 62nd with an up-and-down 79-69-76-224.

Ethier, who owns the Bentley career stroke average (74.2), has strung together a 73.5 average during 14 rounds this spring. That’s on pace to break the school record, currently owned by Malcolm Oliver (.73.67 in 2015-16).

Ethier, Bentley’s Outstanding Male Senior Athlete, is the second Falcon to qualify as an individual. Back in 2003, Erik Swenson represented the Falcons at the nationals.
