Raiders softball season ends after 6-1 quarterfinal loss

The Rivier University softball team fell behind 2-0 in the first three innings and dropped a 6-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinal on the road to No. 4 Albertus Magnus pn Tuesday.

The Raiders lone run came in the seventh when Julia Daley walked with the bases loaded, scoring pinch-runner Mikayla Bourski.

Riv, the No. 5 seed, ends its season at 7-4. The Raiders were held to just one hit by AB pitcher Laura Anderson (8-2), who went six-plus innings, striking out three and walking one.

Anderson had quite a day, going 2 for 4 with a three-run homer in the fourth to break the game open. Riv’s lone hit was by leadoff hitter Kasey Smith.

Riv’s Kellie Kennedy (2-2) took the loss in the circle, going 5.2 innings, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits, walking six and striking out three.

Albertus Magnus improved to 12-5 and moves on to the GNAC semis.
