UNH men’s soccer clinches spot in America East playoffs

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior midfielder Linus Fallberg (Jonkoping, Sweden) scored two goals as the No. 12 University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team posted a 4-1 win against UMass Lowell on Friday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium in America East action.

With the win, the Wildcats have clinched a bid to the four-team America East Championship on Thursday, April 15 and Saturday, April 17 held at the top seed of the tournament. UNH will earn the No. 1 seed with a win or tie in the regular season finale at Vermont on Friday, April 9 at 5 p.m.

The Wildcats improve to 5-0-1 (4-0-1 AE), while the River Hawks fall to 0-5-0 (0-3-0 AE).

Freshman midfielder Yannick Bright (Milan, Italy) scored his first collegiate goal and tallied an assist. Senior back Victor Menudier (Limoges, France) also scored a goal. Sophomore midfielder Rory O’Driscoll (Minneapolis Minn.),sophomore midfielder Bilal Kamal (London, England), graduate student forward Paul Mayer (Strasbourg, France) and graduate student midfielder Diego Toribio (Herencia, Spain) each posted an assist in the win.

In the 45th minute, UMass Lowell’s Abdi Shariff-Hassan found Mario Mora Perez who netted the goal, making the score 3-1.

New Hampshire outshot UMass Lowell, 14-4, while the ‘Cats posted seven shots on goal and the River Hawks took two.

The ‘Cats took two corner kicks, while the River Hawks took three.

Alejandro Robles saved one shot for the ‘Cats, while Jacob Heihsel had three.
