UNH women’s soccer gets OT win; field hockey tops UC Davis

DURHAM, N.H. — Freshman Keegan Mayer (Summit, N.J.) scored her first collegiate goal in double overtime to lift the University of New Hampshire women’s soccer team to Sunday afternoon’s 2-1 victory against the University of Vermont at Wildcat Stadium.

Junior goalkeeper Cat Sheppard (Nesconset, N.Y.) recorded seven saves and freshman Anna Hewlett (Webster, N.Y.) sent the game into extra sessions with her first career goal in the 87th minute.

UVM goalkeeper Lydia Kessel also finished with seven saves, including two in the first overtime and one more in the second extra session.

UNH advances to 5-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in America East. Vermont is 0-2-0 both overall and in the conference.

UNH FIELD HOCKEY TOPS UC DAVIS

Sophomore Ava Mariani (Easton, Pa.) and junior Tia Raspante (Sandwich, Mass.) each scored a goal to propel the 18th-ranked University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Saturday’s 2-0 victory against UC Davis at Memorial Field.

Freshman Lindsay Lee (Eindhoven, Netherlands) tallied an assist on both goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) finished with five saves for her second shutout of the season and career. Freshman Rosalie Post (The Hague, Netherlands) was credited with a defensive save.

UC Davis goalie Kalli Wagnon also made five saves.

UNH advances to 4-2 on the season with a 1-1 record in America East and is scheduled to play Stanford University on Wednesday (2 p.m.) at Memorial Field. UC Davis falls to a 1-2 overall record while being 0-1 in America East competition.

WILDCAT VOLLEYBALL SPLITS PAIR

The University of New Hampshire volleyball teams split a pair of America East matches on Sunday afternoon at Fleisher Athletic Center on the campus of NJIT.

With the split, the Wildcats move to 3-3 overall, while Binghamton falls to 0-7 overall and UMBC is now 7-2 after two victories on the day.

In the late match, UNH swept Binghamton, 3-0. The set scores were 25-16, 25-11 and 25-15.

UNH hit .376 in the win vs. the Bearcats with a team best .433 hitting percentage in the final frame with 14 kills. The ‘Cats hit over .300 in each of the three sets in their third win of the season.

Sophomore right side Hannah Crist (Cicero, Ind.) led the Wildcats offensively with seven kills with a .778 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) added six kills, a .500 hitting percentage and five digs, while freshman middle blocker Gabby Smith (Carmel, Ind.) also tallied six kills at a .600 clip. Freshman libero Mia Pagliarini (Springboro, Ohio) added another 18 digs for the second straight match for the Wildcats. Freshman outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) recorded five kills, four aces and three digs in the victory for UNH.

In the opening match of the day the Wildcats dropped a 3-1 match to UMBC. The set scores were 25-18, 18-25, 26-28 and 19-25.

Serbousek totaled a team-high 13 kills with a .290 hitting percentage. Freshman middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) added a career-high 11 kills to go along with a .391 hitting percentage. Bilyeu chipped in with 10 kills and 13 digs in the losing effort.

Pagliarini notched a match-high 18 digs in a strong defensive effort for the Wildcats.
