The Milford basketball community is in mourning today as Milford High School head boys basketball ball coach Dan Murray passed away unexpectedly this morning.

Murray, who has been the Spartans head coach for the last 15 years, had been suffering from a brief illness and while hospitalized, according to Milford athletic director Marc Maurais, suffered a heart attack on Sunday.

Murray had also been suffering from a physical foot ailment and had turned over the bulk of his coaching duties to co-coach Don Gutterson this year.

He guided the Spartans to back-to-back state titles in 2010 and 2011.

“He was an incredible, caring man who always put others ahead of himself,” Maurais said. “His positive outlook will be missed and this is a devastating loss to the entire community of Milford and basketball circles throughout New Hampshire. My heart goes out to his wife Jenni and sons Daniel and Michael.”
