VESTAL, N.Y. – Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored 12 of her team-leading 16 points after halftime, and Derry’s Brooke Kane added 10 points, eight boards and two steals, but the University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team was outlasted 58-56 by Binghamton University in Monday afternoon’s back-and-forth America East clash at the Events Center.

In a game that featured 17 lead changes and five ties, UNH (3-8, 3-5 America East) was edged by Binghamton (3-7, 3-5 AE), which salvaged a split of the two-game series. Kaylee Wasco scored a career-high 20 points (8-for-16 FG, 4-for-7 FT) and grabbed six rebounds for the Bearcats.

The Wildcats seized their final lead, 56-55, with 56 seconds remaining when Gogolin dropped in a runner off a feed from Hudson’s Amanda Torres (six points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals).

Denai Bowman (eight points) buried two free throws with 15 seconds left to put BU in front, 57-56. Following a UNH timeout with 5.1 seconds left, Kane’s right baseline jumper was blocked by Clare Trager (10 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks), who hit one foul shot to cap the scoring.

In the fourth quarter, the ‘Cats capped a 6-0 run when Helena Delaruelle drove and delivered a wraparound pass to Gogolin for a layup that upped UNH’s lead to 52-49 with 4:55 remaining.

After Wasco’s turnaround from the right block drew Binghamton within one, Kane slashed down the left side of the lane to make it 54-51 with 3:44 left.

Wasco responded with back-to-back baskets -a left-side finish to close the margin to one at the 2:24 mark, and then by knifing her way through the middle to put BU ahead, 55-54, with 1:10 on the clock.

UNH returns home for a two-game series against Stony Brook this Saturday and Sunday at Lundholm Gym. Each game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPN3.
